Re: Who would be a good PM?

Sad that Barbara Castle is 'not available'

She would make Maggie Thatcher look like a wimp.

She was on the side of the working classes- not big businesses

I think that statement will go over the heads of a few of our younger members. I saw Barbara Castle get out of her Jag and into a Ford Pop to make a visit to a Blackburn Factory.
She was never in the same league as Maggie.
Seeing the demise of businesses in Blackburn I think relying on the unions to get elected and keep the seat is well out of order.
She stood for Blackburn for many years, that was for self esteem, not for the people of Blackburn.

My Mum has a photo somewhere taken with Barbara Castle think it is from when she worked at Burco and Barbara Castle paid a visit. Will see if I can find it and post it

She was also a nosey busybody who thought that she rules Blackburn.

During my divorce where I gained custody of my children, questions were asked in Parliament as to why a father got custody when tradition dictated that all custody disputes went the wife’s way.

She then had the audacity to turn up at my place of employment (Dynamo & Electrical Services on Pearson Street in Blackburn) and demanded to see me. Her attempt to give me a piece of her mind and trying to bully me into rescinding my claim backfired. She went away with a very large flea in her ear.

I went back to work unperturbed by her outburst.

Well it looks as though I am her only fan.
I was swayed by a speech recently reshown on TV where she was addressing Liverpool dockers.

Even if you didn't like the woman, you have to admire her rhetoric.
not like the monotone mumbles we get from Gordo

I would't have thought so, I couldn't have seen Monica slumming it with Barabara really

It won't be long before GW is out of a job .... he is stupid enough to qualify for high political office ..... straight from 1600 Pennsylvania Ave to 10 Downing St.

She introduced the Seat Belt Law and the breathyliser.
She visited Bangkok to see if there was any mileage in that one to promote her ego....to no avail....banning that would have meant a disaster for the labour government at the time.
