Re: Who'll Be Next To Go, after Woolworths?
If Accy does not improve... maybe Marks will pull out here to.
I think the one in Blackburn and Burnley will stay.... but not so sure about the Accy one:

I really do hope not.
If they announce that Accy Marks and Spencer is to close, my mum will do an Emmeline Pankhurst and chain herself to the building.

Re: Who'll Be Next To Go, after Woolworths?
I would not be surprised if the Blackburn M&S went before the Accrington one. I get the impression it is almost a clearance store for the chain.
Burnley store is always busier than B/b one and carries more lines

Front page of todays LET announces that Mercers is to close - probably THE best all round store in Blackburn. Will be sorry to see it close.

was in accrington m@s yesterday afternoon, there was 9 in front of me in queue. plus 3 at the tills (clothing) so reckon accy is still doing ok, only drawback is accy don't do Per Uno. nor do blackburn, so accy is best bet of the 2 to remain in my book.

I bet Tesco are pretty pi**ed off. Just think of all that money they've spent on brown envelopes and pouring concrete up by t'railway station when if they'd waited a few months they could have got the woolies store for nowt.

I was horrified when I read this.
It was bad enough having no toy shop in Accy and now this.
My kids love going to spend their birthday and Christmas money in Mercers.
They were very upset when I told them this news and we then had to have a lengthy credit crunch discussion as they couldn't understand why it was closing.
Where will we go now? We've still got Argos but flicking through a catalogue and going to the shop and filling a form in is not the same experience for kids as going to a proper toy shop and seeing all the toys displayed on the shelves.
If you can't get to Toys r us in Preston where do you go?
