i went to my friends house toinight and he lives on the estate over between KFC and Saint Christophers high school and got talking about the comunity wardens in the area.

i usualy have nothing but praise for them but what i heard tonight was laughable to say the least

the comunity wardens have rounded up the kids and got them to pick up litter , garbage etc and as a reward for doing the clean up they recieve treats like day trips out to a theme park i think it is this time

forgive me for been cynical but these kids are the ones making the area a tip in the first place and have picked up very quickly that if they continue to make a mess the comunity wardens will put on a clean up day and take them out for the day

how about getting their lazy ass parents to clean up their kids mess

How about punishing kids who make a mess and rewarding kids who don't?

Why assume the parents are lazy? That doesn't necessarily follow.

i didnt want to put too much detail but the kids who cause the most of the mess and trouble in that area are the ones who have parents who stay in bed all day and let their kids do what they want as long as they dont get disturbed so as usual the parents who bring their kids up right and their children get nothing

it seems to be the british way to reward those who actualy create the problem and it always seems to be at the expense of those who arnt the problem like when they send people who mug old ladys on holiday

When our area had a local funday earlier this year the community wardens were trying to get local kids to sign up to keep the area litter free by picking rubbish though i dont remember them offering bribes though

I think the children shoud be encouraged not to drop litter or if caught made to clean up the area, I dont necessarily think that days out should be given, though that could be what these kids are lacking, but good point Chav, whose funding it?

the onlything it encourages kids to do is mess up even more so that they can tidy up again and get a treat

Sorry but can i just correct you in this thread. My son is a junior warden and i think you will find that those kids that are picking up the litter are the ones who care for their community and surrounding areas. And good on the wardens for taking them to theme parks. Good behaviour deserves awards !

can i now correct you in this thread because it is my friend who actualy lives in this area and deals with the comunity wardens and i can tell you that the majority of the kids benefiting from the scheme are the scroats who make the mess in the first place and quite a few other residents are unhappy with it as well

like i said earlier i usualy praise the wardens but in this case they have dropped the ball so to speak

did you say majority ! so the good kids that get off their backsides and go and pick other peoples rubbish up dont deserve any praises !

so by your logic its ok to reward a large amount of bad apples as long as 1 or 2 good ones get a treat

hey if the wardens pay for the day trips out of their own pocket then its fine by me but since its more likely that its coming out of our taxes i dont personaly find it acceptable

when i was a kid i never head of such crap as to be rewarded for picking up my own mess as it was expected that i didnt throw crap on the floor in the first place

The last litter picking my son did they was awarded, yes and truly deserved by the good kids that did it. Oh and by the way the trip out was funded by Eaves Brook Housing Association.

When i was with New progress they did a litter clean up & hired a skip most of the rubbish weren't belonging to the kids or parents who cleaned up the estate ~ all they got was sweets & drinks oh & pic in the newsletter - no blaming trip out or anything like that

You have to remember that there are good kids out there just trying to better their community and trying to lead an example to the bad ones. My son has had some real flack from kids around here for being a junior warden but he has proved a better person to me by walking away from them and carrying on helping out in the community.

Got to disagree with chav on this one, the good thing is that kids are bieng rewarded for doing good for the community. The clean ups not only improving the cleanliness of the area, but also act to bond the kids and their Neighbourhood wardens leading to greater respect for authority figures. HOW CAN THE CLEAN UPS BE CONSIDERED AS A BAD THING?
