Re: Wot not How.

I'm one of the old fashioned school who believe that the only way to ensure that people read what you intended to say is by ensuring that you write it correctly with all the required punctuation and grammar. Of course you cannot account for those who still misinterpret what has been said and proceed to find fault with the poster when the fault actually lies with themselves.

I thought Garinda had just put in a post to wind us all up, then gone travelling for a few months to wait until the dust had settled!!!

Only joking!

Re: Wot not How.

It doesn't really bother me at all if posters on here spell correctly or not. I recognise the word and that's that. Even when the grammar is wrong I can usually work it out what the meaning is. I haven't had any problems so far understanding anyones English in here. What bothers me is "Yank speak". The yanks have this quite annoying habit of using the verb 'To bring' instead of the verb 'To take'. If we offered to take someone to Blackpool from Accy for example, a yank talking to you in the street in Accy' would offer to bring you to Blackpool. Not take. That to me is atrocious English. I come across it all the time in books written by american authors. They misuse the two verbs constantly.

However, if anyone wishes to improve without having to go back to school, just read lots and lots of books and you will find that over time your English will get better.

The most widely spoken language in the world is, in fact, Chinese. I think English is second.

Re: Wot not How.

Wow, only seconds after starting this thread BT decided you lot could do with a break from me, hence something in a box outside Ossy Mills has kept me away from you all for four days.

I'm glad the thread has been so well commented on. l've only had the chance for a quick scan, and look forward to a more in depth read in the middle of another drug fuelled, sleepless night.

ln response to A-b's critisism of me though [fair enough, l have more than enough shoulder breadth,] l appologise for thread wandering, empty rhetoric and other charges laid against me. As for being spiteful, well l was. It was in relation to Gayle Knights Q & A marathon, when l threatened to post a painting A-b had emailed me, so we could judge his artistic integrity. It was mean and l'm sorry, but l did make my point.
