Re: Would AccyWebbers like a Parliamentary hustings?

Jonesey is an 'owd romantic - in some ways, just like myself. He has an idea in mind of a hall packed with men wearing dirty grey gabardine raincoats and cloth caps on their heads, smoking pipes (or if they're lucky, Woodbines), waving trade Union banners emblazoned with words such as 'Accy & District Shuttle bashers & Snotdyers Union (No 6 Branch)' and 'Workers & Wastrels of the World Unite' while all the time being seranaded by a brass band led chorus of 'The Internationale.'

He makes a tub thumping speech..then arguments rage...bun fights break out...innocent fascists are beaten up and thrown out of windows. A mysterious woman by the name of Buckley rises to speak, but she is soon silenced and disappears....then Jonesey is carried high on the shoulders of his adoring comrades, out into the street as the mass proletariat break into a spontaneous outburst of 'The Red Flag.'

A bluestocking no less!

The candidate for The Wealth & Suffrage Movement, demanding the rowdy, unwashed, toil weary rabble quietens down, whilst she makes her heartfelt demands heard, that the idle rich should be allowed a vote too!

She's the only woman, in the packed, smoke filled, hall.

As all the towns' womenfolk are out the back, in the kitchen, making butties, for when a motion's passed that there should be a brief recess.

It's a pity Play For Today ended.

Oh dear,Wrong again,Working Men Clubs are not licensed to hold such events.

The Oswaldtwistle Social Club, the redundant Oswaldtwistle Conservative Club, can always find room for bookings.

Bring it back. Maybe we could have a two hour special on the Accy election....a play directed by Martin Scorsese...starring Robert de Niro as Councillor Jones, Marlon Brando as Councillor Britcliff and Judy Dench as Ms Buckley...it could be fun.

You're so highly cultured.

I was thinking more like mixing Fishy On a Little Dishy (When da Boat Comes Tin), with Brass.

Yeah, I know about the culture bit.

I trust you weren't thinking of Ms Winterston to write the script.

Some people that think they are sensible but yet can not spell drivel should get to know the law regarding Clubs and Affiliates. beni CMD

Far be it for me to complain - But some of my posts have been deleted by a person that I think I know but he does not have the power of lateral thinking.

I took it on myself to venture into town on a very disdainful day to ask the good people of Accrington if we should have a Hustings day.To cut a long story short I am still alive but not one person knew what the hell a Hustings day was.

The answer to the teaser was --I was there.

Only moderators (names in black) can delete posts, usually for bad language, or if they're reported.

Most times you get a pm, telling you why it was deleted.

If you didn't, and are worried as to why it went, pm a mod, and they'll helpfully tell you why it was deleted.

How about in the council chamber? Might make a change for politics to be discussed instead of mud slinging and one up man ship games.

I thought because of the grand renaming ceremony the other year, in order to stem dwindling numbers, it no longer had any political affilations, and the local Conservative Association just held their meetings there, like other groups do too.

Which version? Here's a couple of popular ones.

The Foreman's Job

The working class can kiss my ass
I got the foreman's job at last.

You can tell old Joe I'm off the dole -
He can stick his Red Flag up his 'ole!

Then raise the Workers' Bomb on high!
Beneath its shroud we'll gladly die!
Though all our critics do shout, "Balls!"
They'll be beneath it when it falls.

or

The workers’ flag is palest pink
Since Gaitskell dipped it in the sink
Now Harold’s done the same as Hugh
The workers’ flag is brightest blue.
