Re: Would you call this art?
I have this condition as well and mine has been described as late onset new onset but is actually localised which in a way gives me a warning. I let people know I have it for my well being and so they do not do something that could injure me even if the intentions they have are well meant. The problem is there is still a stigma attached to it and the level of information most people have is very limited. To try this is likely to give the wrong idea and will not help at all. My daughter has epilepsy as well (juvenile myaclonic) and because kids around her have no understanding of it think its a great way to have fun at her expense. This leaves her stressed and upset that can and has triggered an episode.
I had the milder form (didnt know i had it) for about 6 years before (didnt know I had it) had a full blown fit on the train back from Accy home and spent the night in Carlisle hospital. Jen had the honour if you can call it that of seeing me in one and that was just before i was due to have a bath. The result of me having a bath could have killed me if i was in it at the time. I take my pills (though I hate taking drugs) knowing that they cannot cure but will control and reduce my chances of having one.
This so called "art" will not raise awareness but will just in my oppinion send the whole issue back to the dark ages. Education is needed not this kind of "education" which is just like the old style "Freak Shows." Me I joke about my condition and have fun at my own exspence. I find eases the worries of others who have know idea or a "narrow" knowledge of the condition. There are better and easier ways than this to help the public understand the condition. It is reckoned that most adults have an epileptic episode in their lifetime but never develop it. Can I take a cat o ine tails to her in order to sow what taking a whip to someone does in pain, blood loss and scarring as a form of art and get a grant for it. Will show all those people out on a Friday and Saturday night drink till you drop session what happens when they fight.
