Angry Would You Have Repoted It ???

Friday, bin men day. HBC bin wagon comes along the street and i noticed the front tyre was very, very, very illegal. The wall had completely split and was bulging out and the tyre pressure was half of what it should have been.
If i had been the driver of that wagon i would have completely refused to take it out.
Just imagine the damage to somebodys property/ car or human life if this had blown.
At the end of the day this is a very unroadworthy vehicle being used on public roads so i reporetd it to the traffic police. Dont know if they bothered to go and find it , but i am totally disgusted at the state of that tyre.

I will be waiting with baited breath in a fortnight to see if its the same bin wagon and if its been changed.

I think you did the right thing reporting it, I only hope that it was chased up.

Re: Would You Have Repoted It ???

I'd have thought that the health and safety people at HBC would have prevented this vehicle from being used. The driver also has a responsibility to ensure that a vehicle that he/she drives is roadworthy. As a driver, I would've refused to take that vehicle from the depot onto a public road. You did the right thing..

If a tires that bad how was it missed on inspection? Lettie is right and if the driver took it out in that state and god forbid an accident involving people happened he is liable. There is no excuse for any council vehicle being in that state considering the facilities they have and their legal obligations.

It could have happened while he was out on his round though, still no excuse as he should have got a tyre firm out to it, doesn't matter when or how it happened where the police are concerned - if they catch you with a tyre in that condition you get 3 points

I probably would have reported it if I'd seen it too.

You should always ask for an incident number when reporting something to the police. If you ask them to tell you the outcome they will usually phone you back. If not you can always call them back a few days later and using the incident number ask what the outcome was.

Re: Would You Have Repoted It ???

being a so called proffesional driver my self (park royal haulage) i would never take a wagon on the road with a dodgey tyre its not worth it! First i would have told the driver cause as spuggie j quite rightley points out there are some dodgy tips.(I should know i have been on a few)if he had given me the cold shoulder then i would have reported the matter with his boss then as a last resort reported him to the police! A driver of an HGV must make sure his vehicle is road worthy! Thankyou for listening to my rants. Lee
