That's why it's wasted on an ex-copper. By the way, whatever happened to the Lancashire Constabulary school of wit and sarcasm?

I left it behind in 1991 when I retired. Sadly, it's now been declared extinct in today's politically correct environment.

Besides, you didn't specify what little jobsworth hat you were wearing at the time, when people spat at, and vomited on you.

It could have been when you worked at the English Electric Company in Clayton-le-Moors, for all we knew.

What are you on about?..unlike yourself I have never been a member of any political party..but then bods like you class anyone who is against tory policies as a left wing Trotskyite..... get over the euphoria of your beloved tory party who managed to gain power with lies and dodgy dealings.

Not having that. Maggie allowed one Jeffrey Howard Archer to enter no.10.

You gotta be jesting! One of the people who spewed on my nice clean uniform was none other than the late, great Alex Higgins. That was indeed a night to remember.

It's all very well bragging about the good times, surely you rubbed shoulders with the common man as well?
Seriously though, you took the job, no use complaining now, is there?

I think old Stumpy might like a little moan.

In a non-judgemental, non-generalising sort of way. Of course.

Perhaps they were 'trawling the streets' looking for the wilfully unemployed. Just as he does.

If they get good at spotting 'em, they could end up wearing a Bobby's helmet too. Some could even go on to become police dog handlers.

Ooh, you are an awful bunch - but I like you! Aren't we all common men? It's just that some are more common than others. Yes, we all have a good old moan at times, but isn't it supposed to be taken in context, and not become an easy source for unwarranted criticism and sniping by people who should perhaps know better. It's been 20-years since I left the police force, and frankly, it was good while it lasted, but I was glad to get out of it in the end as the day to day stresses affected my health in such a way that I was unable to continue. I then returned to my engineering roots until I was diagnosed with a life threatening illness that remains with me till this day. Thankfully I have the love and support of my family to cheer me along. The banter on this site, though trying at times, is a much appreciated source of debate and long may it continue to be so!

If we all thought exactly the same way, besides making life incredibly dull, it would mean there'd be no need for debate, or forums to host said debates. Which is basically just an exchange of ideas.

In the great scheme of things, what others think, really isn't that important. As long as what you believe, you see as the truth, that's all that matters.

As you hinted at, somethings are much more important.

Family, health, friends, love.
