Xmas decorations

'Pathetic' Christmas lights display after council killjoys order homeowner to dim 20,000-light extravaganza | the Daily Mail

How many of you have got neighbours that have lights like what he had? His neighbours have protested and the council have banned him from making the collections like he did. I would have hated to have his leccy bill in the past years. He did do some good though raising £55 grand for charity with his xmas decorations. Theres a few houses round here that have put outside decorations up and they look good.

Re: Xmas decorations

Wow that is massive! It looks good because it is lots of little lights.

I can't quite fathom out what I feel about Christmas lights. I'm not too keen on those inflatable Santa and snowmen thingss but I do like the pretty colourful lights. I wouldn't like the leccy bill that goes along with some of the very extravagant displays though but I do like to see them. This guy was using something cheerful to raise money for charity and maybe the neighbours were being killjoys but if their property was being damaged by people coming to see his lights then I can see that they had a point.

Another thought is the fuel consumption/global warming/carbon footprint attitude but for goodness sakes councils have their own Christmas displays so they shouldn't really grumble about people who do private ones. If he didn't mind the bills, and it's only once a year, it's a pity they couldn't have sorted something out to let him continue but make sure that no-one damaged neighbouring property. Oh dear though, that might have meant involving the police and that would never do.

Yes I do like to see displays and would go on a bit of a detour to see really good ones.

Re: Xmas decorations

Well I wouldn't like them in my neighbourhood. The ones which are so 'over the top' that they attract night traffic veiwing them, are bound to cause noise nuisance increase in a neighbourhood.

Keep them to town shopping areas where people don't have to LIVE with them

Re: Xmas decorations

They should switch them off over night. That would be disturbing if you get woken not only by the bright lights but by noisy passing traffic.

I think its up to the person if they want lights like that...me personally wouldnt, because ...1...i dont have a house that big!!...and 2....i couldnt afford it anyway...lol
...and he did raise money for charity, so that did some good!

Yes, of course it is emamum, however, it is also about bringing joy and pleasure to this celebration, and we all do it in the best way we can. Even if you do not go to church at Christmas, still brings happiness to people, no matter what. The fact that you are buying presents for your children signifies the fact that you yourself, are being hypocritical, and is more than celebrating Jesus's birth; but you are able to afford this pleasure and bring an exciting time to them.

I am, myself, a confirmed atheist, as are both my children and grandaughter, but we still jump on the bandwagon of Christmas because it is a happy time and just love the magic of the fairy lights, presents, extra kisses, yes, even the work's does where we all get a little too drunk. What the 'hell' (don't believe in that either ) It's fun time.

Hey !! As I submit this post, the Rotary Club's sleigh has just been down my avenue .. have contributed, and know it will be well-used for people that are less fortunate than myself.

If he deducted his extra electricity costs there wouldn't be much left for charity
