Yet another do-gooder UN fiasco.

"The BBC's Radio 5, (which plans to include our own Richard Baehr in its coverage of the upcoming US Congressional elections), has uncovered another example of incompetence, waste, corruption and ineffectiveness in a UN-based environmental initiative."

Read the whole article at The American Thinker

This might go in tandem with jambutty's earlier post. Apologies in advance to garinda who thinks it's an oxymoron to have the words American and Thinker side by side.

Re: Yet another do-gooder UN fiasco.

As all Americans think that the UN is a pinko liberal conspiracy I'm not surprised they have found something like this. Mind you coming from a country that believes global warming is dreamt up by commie pinko liberals as a means of undermining the good ol' US of A I'll treat this with the usual thimblefull of sodium chloride.

For *&^$'s sake change the record and realise that the world does not exist to further American ideals, Oh and as you are in the confederacy the world is the bit beyond the big bits of water that gets the 2 minutes at the end of your newscast and the bit that gets half of page 8 in USA today.

Re: Yet another do-gooder UN fiasco.

Richard A. Baehr is the principal of Richard A. Baehr & Associates in Chicago, Illinois, a management consulting firm in the health care field. He is a political science graduate of Kenyon College and received a Masters of Science in Management degree from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Subsequently, he has consulted nationally in the health care industry, was a founder of several companies in the field and headed the Midwest health care consulting practice for Ernst & Young. He is a frequent writer and speaker on the Middle East and American politics.

Stanaccy, maybe you should join Ianto for a jar down the local. It might be calming for you. Just contemplate, if you are unhappy now with your government and the EU political classes, just wait until the UN gets its hooks in.

Re: Yet another do-gooder UN fiasco.

Who said I am unhappy with the EU, I feel it actually promotes more environmentally sound and union friendly policies. Several EU regulations have helped defend rights workers in this country have fought decades to get, only to have them threatened by successive governments under the guise of promoting business friendly ideals.

Instead of knocking organisations if the US actually worked with them they might be amazed at the difference they could make. The UN does a lot of good if the US backed it fully instead of just the bits they like, it could do a lot more, I mean for instance why do you need a clause that prevents your soldiers being indicted of war crimes whilst serving for the UN? Worried or something? No person can have that freedom.

According to that august journal The American Thinker, we the British public are having our BBC viewing fodder changed from watching Groundforce to Christian programming.

Apparently this started in July.

Whoosh, must have missed that.

If that was an attempt to be humorous, it was an failure except in terms of causing offense. Not a positive contribution to the discussion, IMHO!

I am an American who believes that the UN is a very useful organization and who personally has enough concern about global warming to install a photovoltaic generating system on his home. Very glad indeed that "all Brits" don't post such silly generalities about "all Americans!"

I apologise for any offence taken as none was intended, I used the word country to mean your government not the individual populace.

That's funny, I could've sworn your post started "As all Americans think...". If someone had started a post "All Pakistanis think..." or "All Irish people think..." I'm sure you would have objected. But it seems like crude stereotyping of Americans is OK, even for "enlightened" people like yourself!

Apology accepted. I don't have a lot of use for the current US government either. Hopefully, the road to recovery begins on November 7.

I have many family members living in various parts of the U.K. and, strangely enough, none of them seem to share your feelings about the EU. Nor, it would seem, do more than just a few of the posters on this site.

The UN has been no more successful than its predecessor, the League of Nations. Noble idea, of course, but not likely to work when so many of its members are countries without democratically elected governments. Forgive us if we prefer not to knuckle under to Third World dictators.
