You can see the coast from Accrington!?

Did you know this? Well not quite from Accrington Town Center but if you go up to the Hambledon Scouts (Old Quarries) on a clear day you can see the sea and I think i have seen Blackpool Tower also - anyone else seen this?

Re: You can see the coast from Accrington!?

When I lived up Belthorn (part of Ossy), the view from my front door was open to the coast. My 2nd ex was a bit of a wheeler dealer and once acquired large brass telescope as part of a car deal. When he set it up on a car roof at our front door, we could see the flag pole of Blackpool Tower. At illumination time there was a glow in the sky.

You're right, you can see Blackpool Tower on a clear day. You can also get a good view of the three peaks on a clear day from the top of Hambledon. For me to see them clear day or not, I'm afraid I have to reach for the binoculars.

You don't heve to bother climbing Hambledon to see one of the three peaks; you can see it from the canal bank at Church on a clear day.I'm pretty sure there is a piccy on here taken from the spot about five years ago - Pen-Y-Ghent in all it's glory.

You can see the Tower, depending on the weather, from the beer garden at The Willows at Guide.

Hambledon, and Ossy moors both offer fatastic views, with the right conditions. Which isn't necessarily bright sunshine, as the far distant horizon could be covered in haze.

A good game to play is how many counties you can see.
