you can shove your public transport.....
up your .............(FAMILY FRIENDLY)
Cars in teh garage today and Julie has had to stay overnight in carlise for work so just me and Siobhan.
This morning I need to take her to grandmas so I can work from home.
So, to drive all the way to the other side of knutsford takes me 50 mins- 1 hour and costs ~£4.50.
To take Siobhan teh 3 miles to grandma and back took OVER an hour and cost £3.80.
Now tell me that public transport is a viable alternative

Re: you can shove your public transport.....
Simple solution: lets start sticking some real tax on car fuel so we can use the proceeds to build up a decent public transport network.

Re: you can shove your public transport.....
To get from town to Bullough park is £1.20 now.......its disgusting.
For 60p extra me n Corker (plus Jack) can get a taxi-its there when we want it,takes us straight to our front door and i dont have to put up with rude/smelly people on the way.

It certainly is disgusting. In fact it's worse - it's pathetic. This is no more than a fifteen minute walk - so why use a taxi or a bus? No wonder that Hyndburn now has one of the highest levels of obesity in the country when people are too lazy to walk even the shortest of distances.

Re: you can shove your public transport.....
absolutely , Nell, it costs me ~5p/mile to travel by car and over 60p/mile to travel by bus. It also took as long to travel 6 miles as it takes me to do 54.
In these days of credit cruch and rising costs, which is your choice, 60p or 5p

Eh ?? £ 4.50 .. Knutsford about 40 miles ... there and back 80 miles. Even at .40p per mile (low estimate now with price of petrol) .. that would be £32.00, Ok divide by 2 allowing for passenger ... £ 16.00. Please tell me how you do that ? .. unless you are counting your journey to work where you have passengers ..
Can't always guarantee the 50 minutes either .. if road works, incidents, etc.

Walking downhill isn't too bad but walking all that way uphill with a toddler? He'd never make it!

That might work fine in cities but will never be viable in rural areas or for people who have had to work a long way from home due to the decline in industry.

Re: you can shove your public transport.....
Bus service in Kingston isn't all that bad ... Kingston Transit is owned and operated by the City of Kingston, and they charge a flat rate of $2.50 anywhere in the city; and if you need to transefer buses, the transfer is free.
Damn ... this thread makes me feel even older ... I can remember when the bus from the Forts Arms in Clayton to the Black Dog in Ossy was a tanner
