Accyweb Meets
As we are not getting the support we used to for the meets we are just wondering if its worth carrying on with them .

Re: Accyweb Meets
Mick we had a decent turnout at teh last one, what makes you think they aren't worth continuing?
Its not unusual to get 20 people there and I know a lot of landlords who would love 20 people turn up on a sat night and sup all night long. Julie and i usualy go through ~£35-40 so extrapolate that and your into 350 quid upwards. Even 10 people can put a fair amount of cash behind the bar that can make the difference between a mediocre takings and a good night.
I guess you also need to consider if meets are more than just a meeting of friends. If you think they are then IMHO its asking for trouble.

Re: Accyweb Meets
We went to the last meet it was the first one we attended. On the bases that we had a good night out I vote to keep the meets going. As it was only our first time I can't gauge whether there has been a steady tail off in attendance. Only the more experienced members can judge that.

Re: Accyweb Meets
oh dear mick, off on a tangent again, i thought we were going to wait until the new year to discuss this, we agreed to wait & see how many turned up to the next 3 meets, yes we have had more at some meets, but thats how the cookie crumbles, mabe if we only had the meets every couple of months we'd get more ? mabe if we had them every 6 weeks whose to say how many will turn up ............you know as well as me mick, that the amount who say will come it nevers adds up on the night, so lets play it by ear & see what happens.

Re: Accyweb Meets
By looking at the gallery photos it seems that more attended when there was a regular venue which could be called 'home' (the Stag)
Perhaps of all the venues since, one could be chosen as the 'home' for Accy Web.

Re: Accyweb Meets
I think I've missed four, in the three and a half years since I joined Accy Web.
Recently some meets have been better attended than my first meets, some less so. Some people have stopped coming, whilst other new people have started.
I think it would be a great shame if they stopped altogether, and would hope that they could be arranged quarterly, if that was going to be the case.
Although it's the people that make the meets so much fun, to me they aren't as cosy as when we had them at the Stag. It was like being in your own front room, and even the non-forum locals joined in the fun. It would be nice if we could find a permenant home, apart from the odd tour to other pubs, that offered the same hospitality we used to get off Staggers and Mands at the Stag.

Re: Accyweb Meets
...by the way, I'm not saying we haven't received great hospitality from the places we've visited really. They just didn't have quite the same fun, cosy, atmosphere of the Stag.

You mean you just haven't felt comfortable enough to dance on the furniture at anywhere else!!

I really liked the Queens too, and as you say Mez, even if the Stag does reopen it may not be the same.
Sometimes I feel like I really shouldn't comment, especially on venues, in case I'm not up for going on the night.
Whatever the outcome, I feel it'll be a great shame if they stop altogether, and I'd just like to say once again thank you to Mick, and yourself Mez, for making them happen. I've had some blinding nights, made some great friends...and yes, have occasionally danced on the furniture!
Anyone new, who may be thinking of coming, give it a try.
You'll be given a warm welcome, and have a fantastic night.

Think what Mick is forgetting is that the Stag was a small room....all a bit closer to each other like ...no matter where you sat you had access to chat to any of the members ... and we filled it along with a few regulars, so maybe that is why he is under the impression that the meets are not as successful. To me, there seemed just as many people at the last meet (even more) at the Oaklea, but larger premises and, of course, the split affected it now the smoker's have to go outside.
We could also have our own 'artist', theme at the Stag too.
Not sure about the way the poll is laid out on here too . who is going to vote 'no' ?
Sorry Mez, don't like the Queens very much.. dark and dismal (sure they still have gaslight) and Mick's information that we will have to pass through the Gent's to get to the smoking area is not my idea of fun...
