CALM at Accy Stanley...

The Campaign Against Living Miserably (C.A.L.M) charity is joining Accrington Stanley for one day this Saturday the 4th April. They will be taking over the ground for the home game against Lincoln City this Saturday to raise awareness of the services they provide. Volunteers will be on hand to hand out promotional material and you can read about the work of C.A.L.M on the website and in the programme.

“This is an excellent opportunity for the supporters to find out more about CALM and it’s great to receive the support of Accrington Stanley, we will have volunteers at the ground before and during half time giving out material and answering any questions” East Lancashire CALM co-ordinator Jamie Scahill said “It’s great to see a partnership like this grow as we both work heavily in the community for the benefit of the residents, together we can do so much more and have a bigger impact”

The charity was set up in 2006 to support men aged 15-35, support comes from a helpline (0800 58 58 58) and a website thecalmzone.net . The East Lancs CALMzone has been active since early 2008.

The project is part of East Lancs PCT work towards meeting the national target of reducing suicides by 20% by 2010. The suicide rate in the North West is consistently higher than that in England and Wales as a whole. The suicide rate in East Lancashire is consistently higher than for the rest of the North West.

Robert Heys, Accrington Stanley Chief Executive said “We are delighted to offer our support to CALM, they have been involved with some great projects in the local community since they started in East Lancs in 2007 and we are very happy both to help promote their work at our game on Saturday afternoon and to develop our partnership further in the future.”
