in clayton is applying for a license to
reopen again

the vol

used to do the albion,volunteers, n castle i think it was called(little lion house) further up the road, was going with a lass off Duke st,at the time,cant remember the year,but finished with her cos the rovers sold Keith Newton.

The Vol used to be very popular when I worked in Clayton. They used to do dinners at one time didn't they? That's quite a long time ago.

used to go in the Vol when the landlord was Joe Haigh.......Saturday night they did lovely butties and my hubby used to have a plate of prawns(only a small plate, mind)......it was lovely way back then.

Yeh, I've had one or two of those plates too Margaret .. were really yummy. Remember Joe Haigh too .. he was OK. The one thing I remember about the Volunteers though was a moss-green carpet, thought was cool.
See the Albion up for sale too, as well and The Lamb, what is going on ?

The Commercial is now the Balti Stan, and the Castle was on Chequers, it is now a private house.
I think the problem in Clayton is that there are now too many pubs, trying to attract a dwindling number of customers.
People's drinking patterns have changed over the years, 30 years ago no one would have thought of buying cans from a supermarket, to drink at home, rather than going to their local.
