Re: Commercial Pub Accrington Friday food review
I go out for lunch most Sundays to pubs/ restaurants throughout the immediate area, the Ribble Valley and further afield on occasion. This week we had no transport so went to Wetherspoon inAccrington for lunch with my partner - it was actually a very pleasant experience. I had steak, chips and salad and my partner had gammon, pineapple, eggs and chips, both with a free drink for under 7 pounds each, very nicely cooked, I've been to much posher places and paid much more for a less enjoyable meal. In fact I'm getting a bit fed up of uppy arsey places charging a fortune for food which costs next to nothing to produce which my grandparents used to make because they couldn't afford anything else at the time (and very nice the food was, I still cook the food that my grandma used to make). But the eating establishments seem to be making a speciality of charging a fortune to make stuff our ancestors made and charge extortionate prices on the premise that they are chefs and their products are locally sourced!
It smacks to me of the Emperor's New Clothes, where nobody dare say that they've been charged a fortune for something that's cost next to nothing to make!
I'd appreciate comments.

I know what you mean after paying through the nose for cheese pie at the Clog and Billycock, and the size of the portion was rather 'nouvelle cuisine' size.

Re: Commercial Pub Accrington Friday food review
I am aware that I'm getting to be a Wetherspoons bore, but I've been for lunch today. We both had a very pleasant chicken burger with chips and salad with a glass of wine and a beer included in the price and an extra portion of onion rings (home made) between us for just a bit more than £10 for both our meals with drinks.
There were people across the road by the Market Hall queuing up at the burger van for similar food which they were sitting in the freezing cold to eat.
But as my partner said, if you want to be part of Accrington's cafe society you have to be prepared to suffer a bit!.....

When that happens to me, I call the waiter over, and say: "Excuse me but my plate is dirty."

Shouldn't think that happens very often from what I can remember about Canadian portions, usually a goodly size.

You mean like the Denny's Grand Slam Breakfast, the one that makes the full English seem like health food And in K'town the local Lone Star Cafe offers a 72 ounce steak ... but you have to phone ahead I suspect that while you were over here, you got a liking for Canada Grade A beef .... and there is no shortage of it in Alberta. And the Mountie's Breakfast: steak, eggs, hash browns, sausage, Texas toast, and a side of pancakes with butter and maple syrup Oh, and a diet Pepsi to wash it down.

Re: Commercial Pub Accrington Friday food review
I just want to say that last Sunday we went to the Plough on Fielding Lane Oswaldtwistle for lunch and it was absolutely delicious and with very pleasant surroundings, but very quiet which does not do it justice. Very very well prepared and cooked food at a good price which I would recommend and the staff were extremely welcoming. If anyone is looking for somewhere to go for a good meal within the locality then I suggest you go there. (I don't have any connection to the pub by the way, my son told me about it!)

Re: Commercial Pub Accrington Friday food review
i enjoyed my food went I went there with friends, i think that our experience was the same as at any typical town centre pub eating house, with the standard of service and meal quality at the level expected for the price, atmosphere and position. None of us were disappointed, as we did come away saying we would go again.

Re: Commercial Pub Accrington Friday food review
Wetherspoons have the same supplier for food as the cafe/restaurant I used to work in.
I didn't eat the stuff for free then and I wouldn't pay for it now.
