Not while there's people like you about Gayle, I suppose we are going to have a Polish band this year, multiculturism my arse, the money would be better spent on other things.

I don't think this is funded from public money so I don't understand your point.

Do you feel the same way about the millions being wasted by hosting the Olympics in this Country.

Re: Hyndburn Mela

nope its creating much needed jobs and even taking on thousands of apprentices maybe maybe will help cut the skill shortage by letting teenagers waste their life by dossing on the dole...

Re: Hyndburn Mela

Think of all the local people that earn money from this

Marquee company
Toilet hire company
Stage management
Bands
Security

So you can say what you want about the type of music but it's lottery money and it's going to pay people's wages. Would you rather that the money that you spent on the lottery added another brick to a big white elephant building in the centre of London or if it helped save jobs in the North West?

Re: Hyndburn Mela

Do I get a sense of deja vu here? Didn't we have the same argument in 2008...and 2007... The answer's simple - if you don't like the mela, don't go to it...and if you don't want to pay for it, don't buy lottery tickets.

Re: Hyndburn Mela

And we'll probably have the same arguement in 2010, 2011 and 2012 because it's not going to go away.

...and 2013, 2014 and 2015, by which time the Olympic site in London will be a rusting white elephant, having conferred no benefit whatsoever on us up North.

I'm agreeing with you, Gayle! If I still lived in Accy, I'd come along (after the pub).

Getting tiresome isn't it Gayle ... they just won't listen to the actual facts of the financing of this event ...

I will try to come .. but like Cashy don't like soggy grass, and it's the day after the Accyweb meet ... still may blow a few cobwebs away.

for one day hardly in perspective with olympics which is employing people for years. plus accy carnival has to raise money through accrington lions so why does this get lottery money

Because they add the multiculturism tag to it that's the bugbear.
