Re: october meet ?
I am sorry that I didn't get there - I hoped to, but had what I call an 'achy day' and the painkillers I had to take would have meant no booze.
It sounds like a good venue for meets - good provision for smokers and buffet too -hope another meet will be going there.

I hope not. The place is ghastly. I shall never set foot in there again.

Yeah. About 4 weeks ago. The place is the pits. Typical of the lousy standards that have now come to be expected in Hyndburn.

Probably not everyone's cup of tea Tealeaf, but would be good to know what you didn't like about it. Constructive like, might help the Manager. No use saying 'tis the pits .. full stop.

I can't comment, I was not well enough to attend so I will keep out of this one.

1) Only one real ale (i.e.only one choice of beer)
2) Lousy decor - the usual tacky attempt to make a sports bar out of a pub. Its the same rubbish on the walls as that in the Thorn and the Brewers, two other once good pubs now ruined.
3) Poor bar service. I gave up waiting and went round the back to chat to Mick for 10 minutes or so, before returning for a pint.
4) Lousy regulars - no one appeared to know what a queue was at the bar or at least who was next to be served.
All in all, an unfortunate experiance . Prior to a month ago, I think I was last in there in 1979; I doubt if I shall enter it again in my lifetime.

A valid point the barstaff didn't have much idea. I commented to Mick about it Saturday night.

There, there, that's better .. that is helpful. Not bothered re. the ale meself.
Yes, the bar staff weren't quite as alert as they should be, only one lady there at times, but the lad who served the butties was great.
Find most MEN are rude in a busy pub when it comes to obtaining their ale anyway. Been overlooked many times by the bar staff in favour of someone with a longer arm/louder voice than me.
Decor, didn't bother me .. just looked at it as ambience, not being interested in sport .. as we remarked, would be more of a problem for the owner when he came to redecorate ..
Maybe we could appoint you as our official pub critic Tealeaf .. mmmmm yeh, will start you out in The Bridge, Accy first methinks

Re: october meet ?
Did anyone spot the picture on the wall when you come out of the ladies??
A footballer who had lost something out of the side of his shorts??
I love going into that pub to look at that pic
Surprised if you ladies missed it

Re: october meet ?
Once again gutted I had to work. But when I go in tonight I'm going to book this and next months nights off.
I like The Railway although haven't been in since the smoking ban so can't comment on the smoking area, but The Queens on Eastgate is owned by the same people and the smoking area there is also excellent.
Re: Slinky's comments on the picture... I've spotted that before now!!
