Quite right cashy, and its still a Conservative Club, the club can't have that status taken away from it. The only way the club could have the Conservative status taken away is if it was bought from the Union of Conservative Clubs and reopened again, then it could be called anything. There maybe a sign outside saying Ossy Social Club, but there's still the sign say Oswaldtwistle and Church Conservative Club too

Perhaps the Conservatives would do better at the next election if they too changed their name, to the Social Party.

Re: Ossy Social Club
Why did they change the name, if as you say it is still the Conservative Club?
They could get some poor unsuspecting person in there underfalse pretense.
I know someone whose head would spin round like the girl in the Exorcist, if they ever crossed that threshold....me!

Re: Ossy Social Club
Seriously though, good luck to them.
Any business is finding it hard going at the moment, especially pubs/clubs, so good for them for trying to keep the punters happy...and well fed.

Well considering what state it was in around two years ago, they've actually worked wonders Rindi, the only problem is I can't get in much these days, which is a real pain, and I have this terrific thirst as well

Saying Ossy Social Club, instead of Con Club, why?
Wasn't the 'Conservative' bit attracting enough people?

Re: Ossy Social Club
Blimey, you Conservatives seem obsessed with changing the name of things for no good reason.
I'm suprised the new sign doesn't say 'Accrington & Districts Social Club'.
At least a certain megalomaniac would have some small sense of satisfaction.

Maybe some narrow minded people would not go in thinking it was full of Tories plotting how to get one over the labour party at the next election

To be quite honest Rindi, if the club had been frequented by Tories alone it would have closed when Emric died, there are those people who won't go in a political club, I would never go in a Labour club, it was bad enough having to work in them when I was Bar Fitting, but Ossy Con ain't been a political club for years, it only becomes one on the first Thursday in May every year

Oh don't start with that you may just give somebody ideas, but it would have to be Oswaldtwistle and District Social Club anyway

I've known people walk out of functions there, because when they tried to sit down, were told they can't, because those seats were Ethel and Bills, and have been for the last thirty years.
I've always pictured the seats in there having lace antimacassars, little cushions with Maggie on them, and tubs of plastic flowers at the side of each couple's particular seats, with a kettle and assorted tea making equipment in a box under the seats. Sort of like mini-beach huts.
Sounds a cosy place to plot.

Re: Ossy Social Club
Ossy Players used to rehearse in there but we got kicked out by a pool table.
They installed a pool table in the main room and so we had no space to rehearse. We were allowed to use the room upstairs which has Union Jack painted on the ceiling (the whole ceiling) but it wasn't a big enough room for some plays.
There was a picture of Maggie hanging when we first started using it but the day after John Major came in his photo replaced hers immediately.
