Rossendale farmers market

Rossendale Farmers' & Local Produce Market - Sale in Rossendale, Helmshore - Visit Lancashire
"Taking place on the first Sunday of every month, from 9.30am till 2pm the Rossendale Farmers and Local Produce Market offers over 30 stalls of locally grown produce. You can expect products to be fresh and great value for money.
A Farmers' Market is a place where producers from a local area sell their own produce direct to the public. The goods on sale are fully traceable and, because they originate locally.
Free admission and free parking."

I am contemplating the rare event of shopping.
I am disappointed with the limited scope of organic produce from supermarket deliveries.
Even Sainsburys and Ocado(Waitrose) have a limited range of organic fresh produce.

I would like the opinion of anyone who has visited this market,
.....do they have a fruit and veg stall? - I need to restock salad ingredients and fruit
.....is any produce there labelled 'organic'? - that would be ideal, but a small local producer is likely to be just as organic but not actually registered with the soil association.

I have mapped my route and travelled it on Google street view.
I am delighted that it won't involve any travel through any built up areas.
It is 30 years since I visited Helmshore and I am glad to see nothing changed, so I don't risk getting lost.

Re: Rossendale farmers market

its on helmshore textile museum carpark margaret .. easy to get to on holcombe road .. and you could have a look round the museum while you are there.

In fact .. come to rising bridge .. go down the bypass - come off at haslingden (carrs industrial estate) go thro the industrial estate come out on grane road, turn right towards blackburn, turn left at the holden arms ..and follow that road round. You'll soon find it. Dont forget your black pudding .. theres a stall on there from Bury.

Re: Rossendale farmers market

I wont be buying black pudding
....but might try the ostrich meat

My route will be along the Grane road - avoiding towns
I wont bother to visit the textile museum - saw weaving in real life in the 40s - used to load shuttles for my mum after school

Local grown n fresh are great n good value, organics are over-rated IMHO have a good trip.

Re: Rossendale farmers market

I went, and really I wish I hadn't bothered.
The drive along the Grane Rd was nice, but when I got there there was nowhere to park nearby.
I went on the official market car park which was a route march away from the market.
Fortunately I had my 'sitting stick' with me to rest en route.

There weren't many stalls and no ostrich meat stall
I did buy a lettuce, kale and some beetroot greens. There wasn't any fruit, but I suppose I shouldn't have expected any at this time of year.

It really wasn't worth the effort going.
