Re: St Georges Day

That's what we were wondering Baudelaire - please let us know precisely what there is to celebrate on your birthday and why.
Cheers!

Don't be so cruel Jo - he might not invite you to his party.

Re: St Georges Day

We already have loads of public holidays around this time of the year. Why not have one (or more) in October/November ?

The idea of having a day to celebrate the life of some mythical being is bizarre to say the least in the 21st century.

Re: St Georges Day

Introduce St Georges Day. Scrap May Day (Euro nonsense). Have a holiday 18th june (Waterloo day) and another 21st October (Trafalgar Day).

Re: St Georges Day

I never heard of Saints described as mythical beings.... been watching too many sci fis!!
Saints Days are simply days on which the lives of extraordinary people are celebrated. For example, after all the good work Mother Theresa did, should she be automatically forgotten just because she's dead? I think it's nice to remember her every now and again, and maybe ask ourselves whether we shouldn't be a bit nicer ourselves in our every day lives sometimes. I'm not saying we have to have a holiday for every Saints day, but as many holidays as possible is fine by me.
When I', gone, Tealeaf, could you plead on my behald to have St. Jo's day in Summer and not in the middle of Winter?
Thanks dear!!

Re: St Georges Day

Mother Theresa was a real person who did good works and of course her life should be celebrated.
I would agree to having a St. Therese's day, but St George, what did he do that was so good ? He is a character from legend, portrayed as slaying dragons !!!

Re: St Georges Day

The Dragon, Baud, is a metaphor for all the nasty evil in the world - something which the English are very good at confronting and fighting.

Re: St Georges Day

I think all everyone wants is a day to celebrate who they are & where they are from. A day to be English & allowed to be proud of it! It doesn't matter what day of the week St Patrick's day is in Ireland - it's a bank holiday. Why? Cos their allowed to be proud of who they are. Just because there are a few bank holidays around this time of year is no excuse. Us Brits don't get half as many national holidays as most European countries anyway. Besides - wouldn't you rather be off at a time it maybe nice weather & you could do something. What would you do in Oct/Nov - Christmas shopping???

Re: St Georges Day

Baudelaire doesn't do Xmas shopping - he doesn't celebrate the birthday of legendary figures like Jesus Christ.
