The Accrington Pals Memorial Service 2014

The annual church service commemorating the anniversary of the one held by the Pals before they marched off to war in 2015 will be held in St John's ion Sunday 16th February this year. Members of the congregations are asked to be seated by 2.40pm for a 3pm start. Following the service, refreshments are provided in the school.

Details from Capt. Shelley Whitehead [email protected]

I will come up with a Facebook page soon.

Their is just one thing I would like to point out, not all the Accrington Pals of A, B, & E Coy attended that service nearly 1/2 of them were Catholics, they would have been excomunicated for stepping inside a protestant church, they had their own service at the Sacred Heart, they all assembled later outside the Market Hall on Peel St, when the photographs were taken.
I went looking for your face book page, and was suprised at how many people are useing the name Accrington Pals.

Splendid. There were 25 flag standards carried in - 9 of them British Legion detachments from all over the county
A good number of civic leaders too. Plenty of cadets. I didn't see an RAF standard bearer but there were some cadets./ The church was full. Good hymns. My only complaint is that the chaplain giving a sermon had no microphone. The bugler was excellent . Les Bond & his pals sang a specially-written song about it being a hundred years since the lads marched off. One couple had travelled from Cambridgeshire to remember the chap's grandfather. I have written to Shelley Whitehead to congratulate and thank her.
