Thumbs down The Bulls Head @ Wilpshire

Last year my partner & I booked a room and table at the bulls head.

We were looking forward to it as we'd stopped previously and had a really good time - until the morning when we couldn't get in downstairs for breakfast and then the chef arrived late; the cleaners started breakfast until he arrived - it was worth the wait tho.

When we arrived the staff made us pay for the room up front and handed us the registration form. Once it was filled in we couldn't make eye contact with anyone to hand it back. I didn't want to leave it on the bar as anyone could see that the house would be empty overnight. We waited maybe 15 minutes at the bar and gave up. We stopped in the bar area and enjoyed a drink or two then went up to the room. When we came down in the evening for food we were told that the chef had gone home ill and that there would be no food that night. Bearing in mind that there wasn't anywhere within walking distance and we'd had some drinks so we'd need to get a taxi to have food; why didn't the staff ring or come to the room to tell us earlier? We were very disappointed and really only left with one decision. We asked for a refund which was given for the room. When we wrote to complain, the manager offered us a bottle of fizzy stuff and a vague attempt at an apology but wouldn't say anything about us having to get a taxi home. We had to go out of our way the next day to collect the car we left on their car park. We haven't gone back - and don't plan to.

Just beware that the staff don't neglect you the same way.
