Re: Whats happened to the Mela?
Oh well, perhaps we should cancel all events that create some sort of noisy atmosphere with people gathering together for entertainment.
Could start with the Carnival, then move onto the noise of the crowds at Crown Green on Saturdays. Have they banned the vuvuzela by the way, like some Football Clubs ?
Just think is a miserable attitude.

Re: Whats happened to the Mela?
An invitation to residents of the Oakhill Park area:
Don’t fancy subjecting your ears to the Mela all afternoon on Saturday? Worry not, help is at hand! Come along to the Stanley v Aldershot match for an exciting, fun family day out! First game of the season, so a good atmosphere is guaranteed. Afterwards, you can go in the Sports Lounge to watch the Man of the Match presentation and mingle with the players. Then, by the time you return home, the whole shebang will be winding down and you’ll have enjoyed a great afternoon’s entertainment into the bargain!

Re: Whats happened to the Mela?
It might sound like a miserable attitude, but it isn't really.......the Carnival is a procession and so the noise is distributed......it isn't something that is constant.
And when it does reach the field where it ends I think perhaps the celebrations are less intrusive.
Those folk who live near the Stanley ground know what this entails and obviously are happy to put up with it for 90 minutes or so...if they weren't then they would move.....it is a different kind of noise too.
I'm just very glad I live a long way from this venue....I would hate it to be across the road from me.......and if that is miserable then I can live with it.

The thing is Margaret, those people living in houses on Many Road, knew there was a park accross the road when they bought their houses. Its no use buying the house then complaining about events that happen in a PUBLIC PARK

Re: Whats happened to the Mela?
I am glad that it is not within earshot of me.
It has the same nuisance value as those 'raves' which were in vogue a few years ago.
The difference with this one is that it is council sanctioned and public funded

Yes, John, you are right....and a public park conjures up peace and flowers and green space....and perhaps an occasional Band concert in the summer...very nice and pleasant, but not smelly food and loud music......this kind of stuff should be in a farmers field somewhere well away from a residential area.
As I said, I am glad it is miles away from me.

Like the T.V. there is an 'off button' ... just don't go.

When we bought our house it was just that, a public park with a band stand, occassional visits by proper military bands for a few hours.
Not manked up pop concerts and boom boxes.

Re: Whats happened to the Mela?
I got an email asking me to volunteer at the Mela. I have a busy week this week though so I think I'm going to be tired but it sounds like quite a lot of fun!
