Just spotted the following while reading a link about Hyndburn's MP on another thread...
Former Bullseye host Jim Bowen cancels performance due to illness (From Lancashire Telegraph)

My mum was at teacher training college with Jim Bowen, said he was always a laugh...lets hope he recovers soon.

Hope the Alan Bennett is good tomorrow evening, wouldn't have minded seeing it myself!

My wife was taught by Jim Bowen ( Mr. Whittaker) at St. Augustine's Billington.

And my mum's claim to fame is that she taught Margaret Pilkington in her first ever class as a teacher -was at Woodnook!

It's just a shame to lose a good locally connected event -I'd been thinking that it sounded like quite a few decent things were lined up for a small Arts Center...

The exhibition will remain in situe for about four weeks for you to view.

Life Drawing Class

Re: What's on at the Civic Arts Centre.

A reminder that Lucy Ward performs this Saturday, 15th September, starting at 8.00 p.m.

Don't miss the opportunity to see this rising star:

Lucy Ward is a British singer, guitarist and concertina player from Derby. She performs, with a voice described as expressive and powerful, traditional English folk songs as well as her own material. Her debut album, Adelphi Has to Fly (Navigator Records), was released on 13 June 2011 to critical acclaim.
Lucy was a finalist in the BBC Radio 2 Young Folk Awards 2009.
In the 2012 BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards she won the Horizon award (for best newcomer) and her recording of "Maids When You’re Young" was nominated as best traditional track.

Tickets are £7.50 and are available www.ticketsource.co.uk/civicartscentre or by calling in to either the Civic Arts Centre Oswaldtwistle or Accrington Town Hall.

Thanks, but no thanks Kate....I am busy enough these days......can't see how on earth I found time to work full time.
I really like the song I posted from YouTube.......maybe it is because it is the kind of thing I could see myself doing......not singing, but sewing the errant husband into the bed and then giving him a pasting!

Re: What's on at the Civic Arts Centre.

I don't usually like folk music....unless it's Irish, and raucous, but I really like her.

Booked first play of the season at The Octagon, or would have liked to have gone.

Hope she gets a sizeable and appreciative audience.

Great to see Hyndburn's showcasing such critically acclaimed and unique talent, such as Lucy Ward.

Well done to whoever's responsible. Hopefully there'll be more of this in future, and less licky-likey tribute acts.

Good music, good bar. Sounds like a fab night out.

If you haven't ever been, this might be the time to see what a good time can be had there.
