A Poem by "Pug"
I came upon this poem the other day and thought its theme was rather clever. The author is a lady called "Pug"
twenty-line poem
A twenty-line poem I have written for you.
That was the first, and now I've written two.
The third line is this and nothing more.
Count them again and now there are four.
The fifth line is harder, the rhyme scheme sticks,
but happily we're past it and through number six.
Seven and heaven always rhyme well,
but to find an alternative can really be tough.
Line number nine and line number ten
were written with very few strokes of the pen.
We're just past the midpoint with number eleven.
(For a thought on the next rhyme see line number seven.)
They say thirteen's bad luck so I'll move right along
to line number fourteen, that wouldn't be wrong.
With five lines to go I must think of an ending
and decide in line sixteen what message I'm sending.
Unhappily three lines are all that remain,
and to impart meaning now is too much of a strain.
There's just one more to go and then I am through
with the twenty-line poem I wrote just for you.
