A RANT - losing my rag
At my age it takes a lot for me to lose my rag, but today I did.
I have been attempting to redecorate my lounge for many weeks now, bit by bit, because age and arthritis mean I can't cope with physical effort for prolonged periods.
Another factor is the flat I live in has no spare room to move furniture into in bulk. I have to work my way around the room gradually over time, shifting furniture as I progress.
I went wireless several months ago but originally connected with the ethernet cable.
During my (prolonged) redecoration, I decided that, if I went 'proper' wireless I could rearrange my furniture layout. I made a scale room plan, and spent many hours planning how to rearrange too much furniture around in a small space. I gave away a large table and chairs and bought a small 2 seater dining set. I got the USB wireless gadget and a techie did the rest.
It wasn't completely successful. I had to unplug and replug the wireless box every time I wanted to connect to the internet. Today even that method didn't work - spent over an hour repeatedly trying. My internet connection is my lifeline to the world, for groceries, banking and all things that ensure survival. Anyone else had the same problem with an Orange wireless box?
So today I have shifted all my furniture yet again to resite the PC back to where it was, so I can use the ethernet cable. Thank goodness it still works.
I have disentangled spaghetti junction 3 times this week, and it is only Wednesday now.
I have shifted my furniture about more times than that because I painted a few more square feet of ceiling and half of one wall in the past 4 days.
Today, AVG found a trojan horse - that was the last straw
I am angry and knackered..........and need to tell somebody.
If I give anyone short shrift on the forum today --- you know why.

Out of interest did the 'techie' set up your security on the wireless connection?
If not some 'funny' person may have setup your router to block your access.

Re: A RANT - losing my rag
Thanks for offering - I may ask my son to help (when I have decided what goes where)
A revised room plan is needed.
Shortage of plug sockets hinders progress.
I have 5 extension sockets in use each with 6 plug capacity, but have to be wary of potential wiring overloads.
I may decide to go to bed for the rest of the day and have a rethink tomorrow.
All would have been fine if that b****y Orange wireless box had behaved!!!

Technically it should not be possible to overload the wiring if you have the correct fuses in your plugs. The fuse is to protect the wiring, if you overload your ring main circuit you will trip the ring main breaker (or blow the fuse but I think your flats have breakers). If you overload an extension its fuse should blow.

Blown fuses are what I need to avoid. The mains box has circuit breakers.
Before my antique gas warm air system was replaced last spring with a new condenser boiler, I had kitted myself out with wall mounted electric panels - When they were in use I was careful not to have more than 2000watts running on each power socket. I was advised that 3000 is the max, but decided on caution, and the heaters needed to be plugged direct into sockets, not the extensions. My lounge has 4 wall sockets in very inconvenient positions at floor level.
I had wall mounted these 6 way extension leads so that they were accessible without stooping. I removed them whilst I redecorated and had remounted some on walls where painting is complete --will have to re-do that now that my room plan has to be revised due to a rubbish Orange wireless box
It is very difficult for me to put things where I would like them to be, in such a small space when things like poorly positioned plug sockets and a duff Orange box hamper my efforts.
This flat is due to be rewired sometime during the next 12 months
Whats betting they will turn up to do it the moment I have got my lounge sorted

Can I ask a stupid question please?
What the hell are you decorating for if they are going to rewire the place? You will need to do it again.

It will be simple to paint over the newly plastered areas when the time comes. I did just that when 2 wall vents were removed along with the old heating system. It was the new paint on those areas which showed me that redecoration was overdue.
If it was patterned wallpaper - it would be a different story.
I want to get it finished whilst I am still hibernating.
After Easter I will be gallivanting for the summer (hopefully)

Margaret,
You haven't told me you were still having problems, I have a spare Linksys wifi router . I'll pop it round when I get a min and we can try that.
