Re: Addressee unknown ??
When I was at home on holiday from London, I once recieved a postcard from a colleague addressed to me with the address,
'His parent's bun shop,
Osweltistle,
Yorkshire.'
My Mum brought it home and I was in gales of laughter.
Sadly I had to sack him not much after for making too many mistakes.

The office keys were dropped in his tea as he ascended the spiral staircase, making a satisfyingly ploppy splash. He'd gone by the end of the week, still stained with tea.
He's still making mistakes, mainly still sending me Christmas cards. Bless.

You aren't a customer of Nat west are you?
there was a mailshot being prepared by Nat west to send out to all its 'high worth' clients i.e. those with plenty of liqued assets about an investment. Anyway, the guy setting up the mailshot used <Mr Rich Bastard> as the placeholder that would get replaced by the name of the real person, only it didn't, he had accidentally put a dodgy character in the template that meant that it missed the placeholder after 'Dear'.
So about a thousand high worth customers got letters that addresssed them
'Dear Mr Rich Bastard,
would you like to invest in our new blah de blah..........'
One IT contractor out on his ear and a LOT of grovelling for Nat west

Re: Addressee unknown ??
It reminded me of when I worked at Charles Cross Police Station, we used to get mail addressed to Mr Charles Cross.
I typed out a report for an Inspector who was known forcewide as cuddles because of his surname (began with cud) and didn't realise that the spell check named him as such on the document. Luckily, he noticed it and had a sense of humour!!

Re: Addressee unknown ??
Once,at work,I had to ring a Mr Brabender but I pronounced it Bra-bender.He wasn't pleased. We also had a girl in our office who always tried to speak posh on the phone by putting a h in front of words beginning with a vowel,so you might say to her,'it's a lovely day' and she'd say to you 'hit his hisn't hit?'She once had to ring a Mr Ahmed and pronounced it Ham Head

Re: Addressee unknown ??
In the first stages of the P word project there was an artist who put a proposal forward called Charles Hadcock - my spell checker wanted him to be Charles Haddock. Fortunately, a letter was spotted just before it got sent out but I suspect he gets that a lot as it's such an easy one for a spell checker to get wrong.

Re: Addressee unknown ??
Apparently YTV used to get letters from all over the world for Richard Whiteley of Countdown addressed to
Dick
England
and the post office always sent them to the Countdown studio.Amazing how little information some people give when addressing an envelope

Re: Addressee unknown ??
I had a letter delivered to me once with the wonderful address:
Margie who knows Roddy McDowall
The house with the yellow door up some steps on the road where some don't have steps.
Accorington Langs
In the northern region of England.
Bless the postman who had hysterics when he brought it. Fortunately at the time I ran a fan club for Roddy so his name must have twigged with the sorting office when the letter made it's way as far as "Accorington Langs"
