An important question
As most of you are aware of my avatar, I found the included article to be of great interest. What are your views
Are donkeys really stubborn, asks university conference - Telegraph

Re: An important question
Like people...all donkeys are different. Some might be stubborn, others less so.
I think their stubbornness might be ameliorated by who is wanting them to do something....what I mean is, they might be happier to do something for one person than another...and it might have some influence, if you have a juicy apple or carrot to tempt them with.
I like donkeys.

Re: An important question
We have two on the farm -to keep the foals company when they first detach them from their mothers (we breed Quarter horses as well as cows).
They are sweet well-mannered creatures and will do anything for a nice handful of juicy long grass -they can't quite reach it through the fence. So you see no carrot and stick is necessary and they are pretty to look at, though they do make a racket when they start braying -probably their only defect.
Do you take after them at all DiG -can you see yourself anywhere in this description I wonder?!

To a point I'd say homely more than pretty & I have the added value of being proper cantankerous when it suits, as to the braying thing, far from being a defect that's just making sure our opinions are noted.

Is homely similar to cuddly? Or is it more like a proper steak and kidney suet pudding? (Yum!)
Am trying to cut out the comfort food at the moment so cuddly is better...
Just for you one of Eeyore's more profound thoughts of the day:
"No give and take. No exchange of thought. It gets you nowhere, particularly if the other person's tail is only just in sight for the second half of the conversation."
He can be pretty cantankerous!

Not for this Donkey, a tendency to Eeyorishness tends to be my guiding light.

"One can't complain. I have my friends. Someone spoke to me only yesterday." Eeyore's philosophical statement for the day...

Yeah well, when you say spoke to me, does "Go'orn, boogger off you !" count.

Was that said to you in German?
Anyway, it would count with Eeyore -he's such a slow bouncer that he wouldn't have been offended -just glad someone had noticed him -poor love!

and this:
Donkeys have a life span of 30 to 50 years, which is greater than that of the horse.
"Larger brain capacity is evidenced by the fact that donkeys require bridles with a larger browband than that needed for a comparable size of horse or pony. Donkeys are reported to have developed an intelligence superior to that of the horses, but its instincts give rise of different behavior, in certain circumstances, which many misconstrue as stubbornness. For example, it is not the nature of the donkey to run in panic when frightened as the horse instinctively does. Under the same conditions donkeys are more likely to stop, stand still and study the situation carefully to determine the best course of action. "
Does it match your personality Dave??
