Asthma
had a bad asthma attack earlier and ended up at the P.C.T at the Royal Blackburn
do they actually employ doctors at all in that place or is it just full of young student nurses?
we where sat in the nurses room for 45 minutes, just because he felt the need to explain to me what asthma is ( like i didnt know, i've only had it for 32 years) all the while i'm gasping for breath whilst trying my best to listen to him, he eventually listened to my chest and told me i had a cold which had triggered the attack off...i left with a prescription for a new inhaler and a spacer, this new inhaler he gave me wont start working for 3/4 days...i'm still gasping for breath and no better off now than i was before i went...what is the point?
has anyone else encountered anything like this whilst visiting the Primary Care trust?(G.P unit)

Re: Asthma
I had a accident at work the other week(something in my eye),straight to casualty, got rushed straight through to a cubical...wow I thought that was quick. Well fortune as so happens, I must of cursed myself. Cause I was sat there for 2 1/2 hours without seeing anyone. The door was open and about 10 staff must of crossed the door about 50 times each. It was only when I said to some young nurse I was going home, cause I aint waiting any longer that I was seen. The young guy who saw me said he had passed many times, but thought I was being taken care of. This coming from the guy who was the only eye specialist up there that day

A letter to the BMA and your local authority must be sent. As an asthma sufferer I empathise totally. Do not stand for this, get these letters off and while you are at it, one to your local MP.
Good luck.

Re: Asthma
Put this to my daughter who runs an Asthma clinic, has also worked on the GP Unit (no, not as a student nurse). She doesn't mince her words, and this was her reply :-
"This is really crap
High loading dosage of steroids for minimum of 3 days, 7 is much better.
Asthma does kill people and it's serious."
Hope you feeling better Flashy.

That's spot on kate, asthma kills around 2000 people a year, I've been fighting the disorder for 30 years. I have heard people say they only have mild asthma, but an acute attack can strike anytime and three nines is imperative, it only takes an acute attack few minutes to kill

Increasing too Jaysay, with allergies and car emissions. Haven't personally much experience of it, but am aware of the seriousness, and must be very scary for sufferers when they are gasping for breath.
There was a programme on BB2 the other day called 'Allergy Planet' (Horizon) .. tried to watch it, but got interrupted. Have found it on I Player ... will try again. Covered the growing asthma problem too.
