Re: carol singers

No, I haven't either.

It probably doesn't pay as well nowadays as Trick or Treating.

Re: carol singers

At our old house my then seventeen year old brother was just about to reverse the car out of the drive, unbeknownst to us, when our Church, lead by the Girls Brigade, came to our house to sing carols as they did every year, a few nights before Christmas.

My brother was too embarrassed to say he was there, and ask them to move so he sould reverse the car out. So there he sat slumped in the drivers seat, trying to hide, waiting for them to go.

Twenty minutes later, as my parents and I listened to the last of the carols, one of the little Girls Brigaders happened to look in the car whilst singing Away in a Manger. She was so shocked to see this hidden, slumped teenage lad, she started screaming, then the others saw my brother hiding and joined in the screaming. Mass pandemonium followed.

How we laugh now, and enjoy reminding my brother.

Re: carol singers

I haven’t either, must be the times we live in today. I must admit I did enjoy having the option of being able to ignore them by turning off my door bell etc because they are really a pain but this year there was no need to bother.
Perhaps we’ve all been conditioned into believing that every other door could possibly contain some sort of sexual predator etc.
Better to be safe and stuff the traditions.

Re: carol singers

We haven't had any carol singers at our house in years now. In fact I can't remember the last time any showed. Maybe the dwindling numbers are a sign of the times?
