Cold Weather Payment
has anyone on here got theirs yet? a friend of mine rang me up earlier to say that she had an unexpected £25 in her bank and that it was the cold weather payment
i personally wont get one, you only get them if your child is under 5, if your a pensioner or if you are on disability benefits
what makes me laugh though is....when a child gets to 6 do they stop being cold when the weather is freezing? how can the government justify the age a child is when it stops getting cold?

Re: Cold Weather Payment
Just checked my account and surprise, surprise, I have that payment, I didn't expect it and to be honest although welcome, is it fair?
I am paid/granted/scrounge,* just about enough to live on, Yesterday my money went in the bank and the first thing I did was as I have done from the beginning of this cold spell was spend accordingly, i.e. it's a bit nippy more spent on heating and less on the few luxuries of life it used to be known as budgeting, or making ends meet.
If I overspend on the 'generous' allowance paid to me, should the rest of society have to pay to carry me through the cold weather they are also suffering and get no help with?
*Please tick as you see appropriate.

Re: Cold Weather Payment
Another thing that annoys me about this cold weather payment, I heard on the tele this morning
If the weather goes below 0 for 6 days on a run, then brightens up ever so slightly and reaches 1 the day after, then the payment doesn't go out, but the weather for the next 6 days goes below 0 again
Not very well thought out I don't think

Everyone feels the cold, regardless of age but I'm guessing that this payment goes to people who are most likely to suffer serious health issues i.e the very old and the very young. Everyone gets cold but some are more likely to become ill, or possibly even die, than others.
I don't qualify for the payment myself.
