Unhappy Don't you just hate power cuts

Power cuts don't you just hate them, yesterday was a real bind for me. It started at 3-45am yesterday morning when I was woken up by my oxygen concentrator buzzing for England, Power cut, switch to emergency back up bottle. Power back on 5am, then 1-45pm back of again until 2-35pm of again 2 minutes later, then back on again 5 minutes later. 3-45 of again but this time am informed could be of for quite a while and seeing that my land line ain't working and my new mobiles credit ain't registered, I'm cut of from the world. Joan arrives at 4-45pm with torch, rings my oxygen suppliers on her mobile and requests another back up cylinder just in case. Now dining by candle light is okay in its place and playing cards is quit fun, but when it gets to 8pm its getting tedious to say the least. Power finally comes back on at 9-30pm just in time to see the closing credits for strictly Another back up cylinder arrives at 9-45, not my best day really

Re: Don't you just hate power cuts

It's terrible, especially if you're not well.

We rely so much on electricity, and it's weird when we don't have it.

You can always watch Strictly online. The dancing was great, but the judges votes was all a con, just so...well I won't spoil it for you.

Aaah poor Jaysay. You don't realise what type of services a power cut affects people do you, over and beyond the normal lights, telly, etc. x

I had no power cuts and we live near each other.
It must have been a very local fault in your block

Perhaps you'd like to exhibit that old war time spirit, and share two hot inches with Jaysay...of bathwater.

You can toss a coin to decide who gets the tap end.

Re: Don't you just hate power cuts

They were having a problem with the substation on Alice Street, where the heck is Alice Street you ask

On the opposite side to me many of the houses were off all day. We had our friends over in the evening to thaw them out. We offered them to stay overnight with there 4 year old and young baby but they went home and roughed it.

Has the power been on all day Jaysay?

Is it a cordless phone by any chance - they don't work with no electricity. You should have a wired phone as backup in your position mate.

You should really invest in a portable generator jaysay. They aren't dear and in your situation i would see it as essential

I don't think our landlord would allow it - gas cylinders are banned -so I expect that having diesel/petrol or any such combustable will be banned too

As opposed to all the other flammable liqueds that are dotted around the house? It could always be kept outside till required in a shed or something or at a nearby friends.

I bet many people ignore the warning on the phones when they buy them that they wont work in a power cut.
