Embarassing moments

We've all had them- you do or say something and immediately wish the ground would open up and swallow you.
A couple I can't put on here but one I remember- we were in Morrisons a few years ago when they were running the advert 'Shop at Morrisons and get POUNDS, not points'. The womans voice was on the speakers every minute or so and she had a very 'sing-song' way of chanting it that drove me mad. When we got to the checkout I said to the girl 'Doesn't that irritating sing song voice drive you mad, having to sit here and listen to it all day?'. 'Not really,' she said, looking me straight in the eye,'it's my mother'. I proceeded to dig my own large hole 'till my wife told me to shut up and run!
I'm sure some of you can beat that!

Re: Embarassing moments

once stumbled by sheer bad luck drunk into the local anti facism meeting wearing my new white nike top

i was so embarrassed when i realised my blunder that i tried hiding my face by putting up the hood which just seemed to anger them more for some reason

Re: Embarrassing moments

I have quite a few of those, which I can't air in this thread in the open forum, but most of them happened whilst I was there and by somebody else

Maybe she told you that (lied) just to embarrass you - I would have responded -
"It is brave of you to admit that"

Re: Embarassing moments

But Margaret, if it WAS her mother, that would have been a cruel response. Anyway, the last thing I could think of was a quick response.

Re: Embarassing moments

Had one today in my local Booze store , Bushmills was on sale for $15 a 750ml bottle ($5 for 250ml) , next to it was a 1.75 ltr bottle(also marked as on sale for $37...... Doh , the mind goes why is a bigger bottle more expensive than a smaller bottle , if its $5 for 250 ml it should be the same or cheaper for a bigger bottle (250 ml X 7 = 1.75 ltr, $5 X 7 = $35) call the shelf stocker over and ask why , shoulder shrugs , goes to find the manager , point the difference out to the manager ...... who looks at me like a 5 yr old and points out the Bushmills is in the small bottle and the contents of the larger 1.75 ltr bottle is Jameson ....... Had to get the last word in ... pointed out this was religious discrimation with one being 'proddy' and the other 'papist' ........ don't think the Hispanic/Latino store manager got my point or maybe he just didn't understand my accent ...
