Family Nick-Names
The Chinese have a saying, "The much-loved child has many names". I was reminded of this, recently, when discussing the names we've used in our family and I wonder if you do the same. This is what I mean:-
My first name is Catherine but I've always been Cath or Cathie - except my eldest brother often called me Kate, my dad would sometimes call me Katya, Katrina or - Whacker!, my 2nd brother called me (honestly) Blurp and my mother had a habit of referring to me, when I was small, as Bunty (God knows why - Bunties are amply proportioned - I was as thin as a rake. ) My brothers also had about 5 names each.
My own children are
Joanne [Jo-Jo; Joey; Jonah; Jay; Jago and Dan]
Alan [Al; Ali; Lou (?); Lash and Tink.]
Nicola [Nik; Nikki; Nixie; Nickertipoos and Neenee]
and my grandchildren are
Peter [Pete; Peter Potter; Pierre (by my late husband); Pedro and Spud]
Laura [Laur; Lausie; Laur-laur; Elsie (her initials are L C) and Wawah (what she said for Laura when she was 2)]
I find it natural to give pet-names (even our late dog had about 6 and so has the cat) but I know some people hate it. What about you?

My son is spud.
My daughter is Petal or Thumbelina because she is the tiniest girl in her class.
My husband is Jimmy because his middle name is James.

Re: Family Nick-Names
Ah, you're like me, Emma. Never use 1 name when 5 will do.

My mum does that Em, it is Mary, Catherine I mean Bernadette. Think my mum is the only one who gives me my full name, most people know me as Bernie and Ian used to just say B. Ian was known by his name on here Ianto which is a combination on Ian Thomas. The kids get various names depending on mood and how they are acting but my bro-in-law always calls Catherine Tilly for some obscure reason.

Re: Family Nick-Names
As a child I got Spud, Sunshine, and Fernackerpan (spelling?), all of which I think were fairly commen nick names.
As I got older I had lots more.
Most of them too rude to print.

I often look round your store in Warrington but I think it's a bit over-priced.

Re: Family Nick-Names
I got all the variations on mine from mum & dad and the rest of em... Jen, Jenny and Jennifer, then Jennifer Marie when Mum was mad at me .... Dad was called Samuel - but was never called that he was known as Sam or Sammy. Niece is called Melissa - but we've called her Milly all her life - when she went to school she was known as Melissa and Milly there. Now shes at the grammar school shes known as Melissa but we all still call her Milly.
