Fast Fit, I don't think so!
I had a really good summer last year, do you remember? It raining constantly, temperature never warm enough to stop your breath condensing enough without you seeing it.
I must admit this summer looked as though it was going to be the same but unfortunately there have been days when there were no clouds in the sky.
Due to this I have had to stop wearing my pullovers and sweat shirts, this in turn has caused a dilema, I have had to start Ironing my shirts and T-shirts before I go out, no longer can I hide the creases behind a layer of wool or polyester.
This in turn has highlighted another problem I had, but, until now could ignore and that is that not long after she arrived the cat tore the ironing board cover to shreds.
So today I bought a fast fit cover, it was cheaper than replacing the whole board with a new one.
So off came the old cover undo the packaging and fit the new what could be easier?
Well looking back on it buying a replacement ironing board that's what, I put the new cover onto the old board and it was like putting a king size duvet on a single bed, it would fit where it touched but would not touch all sides at the same time.
I sat down rolled a fag and gave it a good coat of looking at, I then remembered I had some upholstery tacks if I knocked a few of them through the cover into the board I would be able to get it to fit in a snug fashion.
In went the first tack split went the chip board, o.k. I'd gone too close to an edge, (note to self aim for the middle of the wood).
Eventually I had a smooth cover in place over the surface of the board, well while I've got the thing set up I thought I may as well catch up with a few shirts, out came the iron and while I was waiting for it to warm up I lent on the ironing board, snap, crunch, clatter, went the ironing board heading very quickly in a downward direction towards the floor with me still on top of it.
When I recovered from the suprise I inspected the board, all the hammering had weakened the catch that holds the legs up and it shattered when I put some weight on it.
So now I either stay in until the weather returns to normal or I buy a new Ironing board, anyone know the long range forecast? Please tell me we're heading for woolie jumper type weather I don't want to waste any more beer money on such fripperies as a new ironing board.

may i suggest get a bit of good linen, from the garages at top of yer street to the right, cost ****** all compared to a new ironing board. put cloth on kitchen table,if weather permits n hey presto, cheap ironing board = more beer.

An excellent plan and off the top of my head I can only see one flaw in it's whole concept.....
It would cost me more to get a kitchen table than it would to buy an ironing board!

Re: Fast Fit, I don't think so!
I put a towel on my work-top in the kitchen and do it that way if that helps
(ironing boards are a no no in my house, far too dangerous with these two running around )

hehee, if i have a t-shirt that needs ironing i simply put it in the dryer for a few minutes and hey presto, the creases come out, no iron required

Re: Fast Fit, I don't think so!
My elder daughter isn't keen on any household chores, most of which she tries to offload on to her partner and her son, and least of all ironing. Her philosophy is summed up in one sentence that she said to me many years ago,
"If it needs ironing - I don't buy it."
P.S. I took my grandson, then aged 17, to Malta for a week in 2003. While there, I washed out a couple of shirts for him. The hotel rooms had a trouser press with built in iron and board and he couldn't believe it when I ironed his shirts for him. He'd had to do his own, at home, since he was about 12. He even spent some of his holiday money on a glass of Baileys for me, by way of thanks.
P.P.S. That was just about the only time he spent any of his own money that week.

They don't make irons to fit my hands so I suppose I'm lucky to still have my cheese cloth shirts from the 70's
