For Steeljack - Urgent attention

Whilst webrowsing I found out that the San Francisco area is experiencing a foul airborne smell
KCBS - Odor Across San Francisco

Further browsing reveals that a sulphurous bad egg smell has happened just before earthquakes.
Eye-witness Accounts of Several Major Earthquakes

It might be wise to take precautions - 'stay safe' - hoping you will be OK

Re: For Steeljack - Urgent attention

It is 5.30am there now - hope he is an early riser
extract from link - re the earthquake in early 1900s
Also, according to Edgar Larkin (1906), who collected a great many accounts, the odour of hydrogen sulphide was noted in the area of Sausalito. He also reported that sulfurous odors were pungent in Napa County during the night of the 17th and 18th before the upheaval, and lasted all day. . . . From many of the letters it is clear that the entire region north and east of San Francisco is saturated with gases of sulfur origin. . . .

In Santa Rosa, according to Lawson and others (1908), a strong smell of sulphur had been noticed two days before the earthquake by one Charles Kobes. Since during an earthquake eight years previously, "sulfur fumes came up from under his house which almost drove his family from home", the recurrence of this phenomenon on 16 April 1906 caused Kobes to tell his family that there would be another earthquake.

Re: For Steeljack - Urgent attention

I have looked at a San Francisco's newspaper
Bottom Line : What's that smell?

In the many comments posted by locals, there were a couple who said it was an earthquake sign, but some others say it is due to the 'red tide'

Re: For Steeljack - Urgent attention

MargaretR, Thanks for the concern , nothing happened so far (touch wood) I was outside last night chatting to the neighbours and one commented on the stong smell of wood smoke , the weather is too good for folks having woodstoves going and there are none of the seasonal wildfires in the area.
Daft as it sounds my own 'earthquake' predictor is when I see a spider in the shower-stall , its the only time I ever see them , usually one or two days before a rumble. (no one believes me , someone once suggested I was just a bit of a slob , untrue)
One chap was featured in the paper saying his research (different areas and newspapers)showed that there was a spike in the number of missing pets reported and earthquakes,
Think everyone living in the Bay Area knows we are on borrowed time and we are due a big one but carry on regardless , most of the major freeways are built along faultlines ,the ground being unsuitable for buildings unless its the hospitals which are adjacent to them .......Yep, good planning for an emergancy ...not

Will let you know if we get a rumble , unless of course its the big one and we are digging out .

That day may still come.

Its supprising the amount of earthquakes that happen worldwide when you look into it.

Always the calm one is our Steeljack! I remember worrying about him a couple of years ago because of forest fires. He didn't bat an eyelid then either.............
Take care mate,
