Yes they look cute but they are vermin and need to be controlled. Not with a pack of dogs but with guns to be humane.

I saw exactly the same thing many years ago at Fields Farm at the Top of Hawthorn Avenue, when it was still out in the fields, a fox killed every hen it the coup about 45 and didn't take one for food, evil little gits

Wasn't it a fox that savaged two young children in their cots only last week? They are vermin, can carry diseases, and are vicious ruthless killers of livestock.

This is not a debate on whether or not they should be culled, but HOW it is done.

I don't consider hunting with hounds as a humane method of culling.

Just one thing Margaret, with the firearms laws the way they are at present, the shooting of foxes is difficult. To own a shotgun now you must have a specific area to shoot in, and foxes can roam over quite an area. When I was younger you could take your shotgun practically anywhere, the farmers would welcome you if you said your after foxes,
now its all changed, some paranoid clown would ring 999 and the kevlar cowboys would have a day out.

Totally agree, Whilst i do not agree with hunting on horseback with hounds, I also disagree with the gun laws in UK which were a knee jerk reaction by a government that looked for an easy way out.
So cull them by gunshots but who is going to shoot the guns. Perhaps poison bait - the manner in which they managed to almost eradicate rabies amongst foxes in Europe.
Whichever way one chooses there are going to be protesters, but foxes are a pest and the problem is growing.

Actually Marge the thread was Mancie once again flexing his Socialist/labour class apartheid, but it has wandered into a debate about Foxes, their habits & actions & the values of culling said pest.

I must admit to noticing a marked decrease in Fox numbers in our area where once they were quite abundant. To the best of my knowledge they've not ventured into town & when seen are out in the wilds.

The Germans shoot them when they become a nuisance & a set amount are also shot just to keep numbers under control, should too many be culled the balance then tips in favour of other vermin, Mice,Rats & Rabbits, so it is a fine balancing act controlled by the foresters in conjunction with hunters.

As to Barries point about poison bait, that's a definite nono ! Here there is to much other wildlife & peoples pets who could take the bait put out, which would lead to an unholy row. The only bait they put out treated is that which is used to curb & control rabies, round here isn't so bad but there are certain areas which are regularly controlled.
