Do kids still play with the spinners or has that old tradition fallen to the wayside in favour of playstations and the like?

Re: From your window
It's a while since I was in Accrington library but the last time I was there they did indeed have the winged messenger mercury.
I should have specified external statuary which one is able to see without entering buildings. The Hyndburn area is notoriously short of such things. We had a thread about it once. Nobody argued though and I don't think anybody offered a solution.

It still happens here only not for spinning. When friends and family come round with their littles ones we can often be found round the kitchen table glueing leaves and spinning jennys to paper making birds and butterflys

Isn't there a statue done by the same guy that did the mother and child on Blackburn bus station?

Re: From your window
I can't see anything at the moment, my blinds are firmly drawn. I got out of bed a couple of hours ago after a night shift. I can't stand the thought of daylight at the moment...

Re: From your window
I see, a very big fountain - probably one of the biggest in the world, with approx 18 tons of water in the air at any one time (not sure on this, it's just what I've been told). The fountain seems to be switched off on fridays though, or is it really sunday... who knows!

Re: From your window
A street that used to be cobbled......a row of terraced houses similar to ours.....cars parked outside their owners houses........some very pretty hanging baskets.......a rose bush with monster roses in a lovely claret colour.
A ragbag cat washing it's 'bits'.....and children playing out.....though they may be inside soon as it is just starting to rain.

Where is that? Sounds like it is a wonderful sight when it is switched on.

Re: From your window
When the trees lose their leaves I can see more of the playing field.
A pair of woodpidgeons are nesting in the tree on the left.

Re: From your window
Well can see the tree aint a clue what it is. The burn with the ducks on the bank sunbathing. If on the verandra I can see the Ochil Hills with the blocks of fir trees. As for anything historical nope cant see owt like that but beats the view from the otherside of the block that looks onto the refinery candles.
