You should get patches, and stick 'em on his eyes.

Re: Giving up smoking!!!!
keep it up, and soon you will realise why you gave up in the first place, your taste buds will come back, your house will smell better and your hair wont stink either, since I gave up I dont get the light patches behind me pictures anymore and when i get a cold I dont cough and splutter like I did before!, it takes 10 years to get out of your system, thats probably why its so hard, but keep going,.......you'll be glad you did....trust me!! best thing I ever done, oh and you will save a fortune, I remember with my spare cash, I put it away and ended buying me self a shed!!

Re: Giving up smoking!!!!
I went to a hypnotist to stop smoking years ago and it worked for me. I t takes a while before you stop thinking about cigarettes but its well worth it healthwise to say I am a non smoker when the craving stops

How does the hypnotism work? Do you still get cravings after the hypnotism?

My Dad had hypnosis, and acupuncture trying to kick the weed. Both of those things didn't work for him.
He only managed to stop when he retired at fifty, by will power alone.
Sadly he died the year after stopping...of lung cancer, but don't let that put you off, see it more as encouragement. The facts being the earlier you can stop, the greater the health benefits.

Oh Rind That happens all to often. It's happened in my family too. It makes you sit up and think if you've actually been smoking for the majority of your life is it actually wise to give up or is that the trigger for the dormant cancerous cells to come alive?

I'm not going to go into a big morbid post about what happened, but it was quite horrible.
Sadly the last year of my Dad's life he really struggled to keep off the fags, he was grumpy, and he found it hard work, but he did it. Just after Christmas he finally started to feel better, and felt he had cracked it. He had two months were he was happy, and more like himself, and did all the things he liked again, like messing about on boats.
A month after that he had a bad back, and went to the doctors, and they found he had a terminal cancer, which had spread from his lungs. A week later he died at home, with us all on the bed with him, aged fifty one.
I've not posted this to frighten anyone. My Dad was just unlucky. I'm so proud that he managed to stop smoking, and he maybe could have gone on to live for years if he managed to stop earlier.
He made me and my brother promise to stop smoking. He was a realist though, and didn't tell us to stop straight away, but in our own time.
Thirteen years later we both still smoke.

Re: Giving up smoking!!!!
Mine neither will be a morbid scaremongering post. That's very similar to what happened to my Nan. My nans had spread from her lungs to her brain when they found it.
I think the moral of the stories is not to start smoking in the first place.

Re: Giving up smoking!!!!
My daughter is half way through week three. I'm well impressed with her even though we don't have our normal marathon phone calls now. I daren't light up in case she hears me and she can't stay still long enough.
I'm well proud of her and hope she keeps it up.
I think I've mentioned this before, but never mind. After giving up for almost two years, I started sneaky smoking. I'd stand outside my house whilst 'im indoors was snoring, then park up on my way to work for a quick roll up. The best ciggies I've ever had.......it was so exciting!
Now I'm back to twenty a day. They are so cheap here it's hard to even think of giving up. No incentive.
Well done to everyone who can crack it!

Re: Giving up smoking!!!!
I watched dad die from lung cancer. Dad had smoked all his life since he was about 9 or 10. Its 21 years this month since he died. My eldest sis tried smoking when she was in school hated it and hasnt smoked since. My other sis smoked gave up and started again, pregnant gave up and no one was allowed to smoke in her house. then she'd have the odd one and give me stick for smoking etc. Then she started again and carried on. At the minute shes given up again - how long for i dont know. Bro has always had the odd cigar and nick my fags etc.
Good luck slinks. Sis has always said though that its easier to give up full stop compared to cutting down.

Re: Giving up smoking!!!!
I watched my Dad die from Chronic Bronchitis and Emphysema. He really suffered, but it didn't deter him from smoking.
When I cut down I felt worse and started to put weight back on. Then when Mum died I started smoking again.
I have thought of hypnotism but it's sooo costly.
I'm dead proud of MUMMIBOO she managed to give up with just sheer will power.

Re: Giving up smoking!!!!
My brother started smoking when he was about ten and smoked full time until about fifteen years ago.
He is now at the stage that he only smokes when he goes to the Stop on Friday nights. He has a couple with his pint or three and then puts them away again until the next week.
I really admire that.
