Gordon Brown To Leave Number 10

Go on then how many cheered

Prime Minister Gordon Brown is to break with more than 275 years of tradition and move out of 10 Downing Street -- to take up residence next door at No 12, The Sun newspaper reported on Monday.
No 10 has been the seat of government since 1735, but it is a listed building which cannot be structurally altered due to planning permission restrictions.
But now, Brown will direct operations from an open plan 'war room' at No 12, which is currently occupied by the Downing Street press office and strategic communications unit, said The Sun.

It's also reported that Cameron wouldn't live at number ten, if elected, as it's not practical for his little boy Ivan, who has cerebral palsy.

Re: Gordon Brown To Leave Number 10

If no one wants to live there perhaps they should let an Afghani mother of seven move in.

It would probably work out cheaper for us.

Is that relevant?

In as much that this thread is about Prime Ministers not living at number ten, yes, as he might well be the next incumbent.

It's no secret about his son's disability, he's spoken of the difficulties they face as a family, and number ten not being an option as a family home for them.

I think it was also the case when Blair was in office, that they lived at number eleven, and Brown lived in the flat at number ten, as it really isn't suited to those with young families.
