Sadly, it wasn't de rigeur for singers, actors, film stars to be open about being gay back then.

Wilfred Brambell, who played Albert Steptoe, was gay. He lived with a man for many years but, when questioned, he had to pass him off as his valet.

Thankfully, we've moved on and people can be much more open about their sexuality without being vilified for it.

Expect there are a load more we didn't know about too Margaret, and present celebrities, although not the same 'stigma' today .. who cares a hoot anymore.
