Rather than the curt 'I don't take unsolicited calls, goodbye', or the even curter 'Eff off!', I gave him your number, knowing you'd handle him better than myself.

Yesterday when some annoying nutter asked for me on the phone, I said he was dead.

That flummoxed him.

Do be careful though. Don't always think a delay means you're being connected to India. I was just about to tell someone where to go, after a silent delay, when it turned out to be someone with Parkinson's.

I used to get life insurance leeches ringing up, with 'superb' offers, I'd tell them I had just been diagnosed with something terminal, the 'phone went quiet very quickly.

Another good one, when asked if they can speak to me, is to say 'No you can't, because they've left me.'

Then start to cry uncontrollably.

I've been inundated with um this afternoon, all the same company, different callers, I'm afraid I lost it with the last one, and yelled some expletive deletives down the phone before hanging up

so have I but i have caller display and if i dont know the number i dont answer and another thing that comes up is call also international i just ignore them .
I wouldnt have a land line if it wasnt for my computer because only people that i really want to talk to are in my mobile amd no name no number dont answer .
