Yeh ... that's gotta be what they mean. 58 drinking years is normal. I'm at around 52 right now and counting And that's not counting the nips I took from my grandad's bottle of scotch when I was still wearing short pants. Two pints a week, eh. Mmm ... So I'm off to catch the No. 1 bus to meet my drunken buddies Sid Wright, Ray Barker, Donald Vaughn, Ian Wade, Johnny Marsden etc. at the Junction. On the way down Rishton Rd. I see the bus pulling out. Should I run for it, or call in the Village for a pint. Village wins out. Another try for the bus. Damn missed another one. Ok ... into the Forts for another pint, and then .... wait a goddam minute ... I've just had my weekly allowance

Eric, did you ever try the Route No 1 pub crawl? Forts Arms to Black Dog? It took me three days!

Funny you should mention it, but just the other day when reading the pubs thread, I tried to remember all the pubs that the No. I stopped at. It seems, though my memory may be playing tricks on me, that just about every stop was a pub. I can't remember them all I started with the Village Blacksmith ... not really a stop; but the bus did go up Rishton Rd. then turn around on Bayley St. before heading down to the stop at the Forts (or at that disgusting bog ) ... from then on it becomes hazy. I think there was a Rose and Crown on Sparth Rd. and the Lamb Inn ... the Load, of course ... but after that, it's all confused until the Black Dog. I tried the crawl a couple of times ... don't think I ever made it, although once I ended up in the cut

No, I can't remember them all now. Must admit I did it the wimps' way...in three stages, going home for some shut eye and nosh in between. Now a REAL drinker would've done it in one go, sleeping in the bushes or wherever along the route!

Those were the days, when the pubs were so close togrther that, once you got legless, you could actually crawl from one to the other
