It's something to do with the "after image" left by the pink.
You know when you stare at something for a long time and then look at a blank wall you see a negative version of the thing you were staring at? This works on the same principle with the green being the "negative" of the pink. But at the same time your eyes also get tired of seeing the same thing all the time and start to ignore it so the pink dots disappear into the grey background. It's only the changeing bit which you end up still seeing (the bit where the dot disappears) so you see that but you see the "negative" version of it. So it looks like a green dot going round in circles instead of a circle of pink dots with different ones disappearing one after the other.
I hope that makes sense. I'm a bit woolly at explaining things today.
