I'm fascinated by that phrase, the number of people that add it to the end of a blindingly obvious sentence that was meant to be funny, but it's stuck in just to reassure the sender that they didn't mean to upset anyone.

Let's be honest, if the person didn't get the joke in the first place what is the point of lowering yourself to their standard just to make sure they aren't offended?

LOL Less .. that's the only text thingy I use .. I love it.

C'mon .. you are the one that does point out at times (sarcastically

) that there was a smiley behind the dialogue (or lack of it).

What's wrong with reassuring people that a comment was meant in a humourous way ?

Because text has no inflexion .. this is the reason there are smilies on forums ... you are the biggest user of these .. and good they are too.

See what I mean you don't understand how to use it!

I ended my post with LOL and yet you still took it serious and used it to point out what you consider to be my failings, please make your mind up, surely if it ends in LOL, (as my post did), you mustn't, as a user of that term take a chance of criticising what I've posted, you must, must, must, take it to be nothing offensive or some form of criticism, (or are you above such rules?).

I only use lol in response to posts which have genuinely made me laugh out loud.

Some people use it at the end of everything they say, which is very annoying.

'Got a bad back lol'

Going to Asda lol'

'My children are annoying me lol'

Statements such as these are not funny so why do some people insist of typing lol at the end of their sentences?

why does it annoy ya lilly?

have ya ever thought with the first n third example, some people may laugh about em or cry, i know i laugh many a time when i'm in pain, it beats the other option.

That's true, but I have always thought that lol is to be used when you find something funny, not in a tears of a clown way.
