london house prices
No room to swing a cat
London property prices may be in orbit, but surely £135 a week to rent a cupboard is still a bit steep?
Not according to Bruten & Co estate agents it isn't, as they are putting the "tiny but trendy" Notting Hill property on the market at that price, despite it measuring just 62 square feet.
Present owner Anny Tsu just about copes with the 7ft 6in by 3ft 4in living area, but then she is only 5ft 2in so has less trouble than most getting into bed, which is on a raised platform reachable only by a ladder.
The property, on the third floor of Viscount Court, Pembridge Villas, in the trendy west London district, began life as a storage cupboard, but was converted by the building's freeholder in 1980 when he wanted somewhere to stay during trips to the capital from Carlisle.
Estate agent Gordon Blausten admitted that the flat was not perfect for a person who planned to spend much time at home, but insisted its location makes it the ideal crashpad for busy bright young things.
“The flat is suitable for a young person with an active social life," he said.
"It is well located for the fashionable shops of Ledbury Road, Westbourne Grove and Portobello Road.”
The flat, which also boasts wooden flooring, chrome fittings, a shower room, kitchenette and wardrobe space, is valued at about £100,000.
