Re: Mr Less

Speaking with my school governor hat on I have to agree that it's a shame where school trips no longer take place but it may not be from any misinterpretation but from sheer inability to fulfil the requirements. Each potential trip has to be assessed by a minimum of two representatives (teaching staff or governors) and the possible dangers analised. The school has to be able to show that enough care and attention has been paid. This is in the wake of situations where children have been killed whilst in the care of school representatives on trips or outdoor activities.

Quite often an already overburdened school (and don't for a moment assume that teachers only work 9am to 3:15pm - I was at a meeting this week which went on until after 6pm and that was merely one of several, not to mention prepapration, paperwork, plans, retruns etc etc etc.) simply cannot spare the man hours to do this so takes the easy option and cancels the trip.

Fortunately my children have been lucky. Their schools have made every possible effort to ensure that trips/camps/outings etc still take place.
