Pale Blue Dot
I watched Carl Sagan on a series of BBC Royal Institution lectures one christmas in the 70's, because there was nothing else to watch, his delivery totally blew me away and gave me a love of science and the unknown that school never did.
In 1990 Voyager 1 from 4 billion miles away sent back a rear view photo... In 1994 Carl Sagan gave a lecture at Cornell, he mused on the pale blue dot on that photo, the rest is history....today would have been his 78th birthday

And this is an alternate view.  Have to admit that Sagan turned a lot of folks onto science and to interest in the universe in general. I enjoyed his "Cosmos" immensely. Still go back to it every now and again. As J. B. S. Haldane stated: "My own suspicion is that the Universe is not only queerer than we suppose but queerer than we can suppose." |
