I remember back in the late 80's going to an Exhibition in Blackburn by Granada Rentals.
It was to show us their latest innovation, renting Computers, with the promise that an upgrade would never be a problem.
I didn't score well with the young lady on the door, mainly because above the entrance was a large banner announcing:-
Welcome To The Paperless Society
Impressive, I thought, until she offered me a biro and said, "will you please sign in and then keep the pen with our compliments".
I am it is rumored slow on the uptake, but not as slow as the young lady.
I countered whilst pointing at the banner with, "if your society is paperless and you hope that I will join you, what use is this pen?"
A reasonable question? I thought so, but she turned to her colleagues and without batting an eyelid or any thought for my feelings said, "why do I always get the nutters!".
Well, here we are almost 25 years later, not only do we still use paper but thanks to cheaper printing we use more of it.
The above however isn't the only piece of confusion I suffer from, here comes another.
I was watching a programme on T.V. this morning and it turns out it's was sponsored by Staples the stationers.
Well, why do they bother? Anyone needing stationary is surely at work? So unless they are watching slyly on their mobile who on earth is going to order their office supplies?
